Why in-person grocery shopping is wasting your time and money

I don't know about you, but even thinking about grocery shopping makes me tired. Not only does it take an ample amount of time, I am ALWAYS off-budget. If you are feeling this way, keep reading. I have a solution for you.

When I first got married I knew that I wanted to have a good dinner every night as food is not only my motivation to get through the day but is also a good way to catch up with family and regroup.

At first, I really struggled to know what to make and how to stay on our low budget. I found myself spending way more time at the store than I would like to admit trying to find my ingredients, and if the store was busy It took double the amount of time it should have.

Not only was I wasting my time shopping in the store, but I was also spending way more money than I planned. It was hard to know what everything added up to be, and once I hit the checkout it was too late to make any changes.

The solution to a budget and time friendly shopping trip

Seeking a way to save time and money, I found the best solution. Online grocery shopping. Yes, you heard that right, online! It seriously changed my life and it can for you too.

Many stores are hopping on this trend and are creating ways for their customers to grocery shop online. This past year I have been doing my online grocery shopping at Walmart. Best part? It is totally free.

You can purchase Walmart + if you want it delivered to your home, but otherwise you can just pick it up for free. By creating your grocery list online you can see what your total is going to be and you're not adding unnecessary items you see in the store in your cart.

Some perks

Have I still not convinced you? Think about how you can shop from the comfort of your home without your screaming children asking if they can get that toy for the third time. It really is an amazing thing.

Just another great thing to add, they do substitutions if your item you want it not available - at least at Walmart they offer this. Say you get a 12 pack of fruit snacks but they are out once they go to pick it, they will replace that 12 pack for something else. In my experience they typically replace it for the bigger pack! Just another way to save some money and get a bang for your buck.

You can also choose if you want things to be substituted or not. They will even notify you if something is low in stock and you can pick what you would like substituted for it if they run out. They will also tell you what was substituted when you pick up your groceries.

Getting started

Now that I have you hooked, here is how you get started. Start looking at the grocery store you typically go to and see if they have an online grocery store option. If they do, make an account. If your typical store does not have one, you may need to switch to another store such as Walmart.

Here is a link to make an account with Walmart to get you started. Once you have gone through the steps to make an account you can add all the groceries you need for the week. Now this is where the Dinner Plan shines. I give you a list every week of the groceries you will need for the dinners, so all you have to do is add them to the cart.

Now that you have added your groceries, select a time to pick them up! It really is so simple and the best time and money saver. I hope you find this tip as helpful as I have. I seriously have not been inside a grocery store in over 9 months, it's been amazing. Give it a try!
